Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 5.2.3 meaning

tad etad ev-aisha daivee vag anuvadati stanayitnur da da da iti damyata datta dayadhvam iti tad etat trayam shikshed damam danam dayam iti

The divine voice of thunder repeats it still: "Da! Da! Da!" — be self-controlled, be giving, be compassionate. One should learn these three: self-control, giving and compassion.

What it means
Prajapati spoke one syllable, "Da", to gods, humans and demons, and each heard what they most needed: restraint, generosity, kindness. Every thunderstorm can remind you which of the three you need today.

Spoken by Prajapati.
