Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 2.4.2 meaning

yatha-iv-opakaranavatam jeevitam tatha-iva te jeevitam syat amritatvasya tu nashasti vitten-eti

Maitreyi asks whether the whole earth full of riches would make her immortal. Yajnavalkya replies: "No. Your life would be like the life of the wealthy, but there is no hope of immortality through wealth."

What it means
Money can make life comfortable, and that is not nothing. But it cannot buy meaning, peace or freedom from death. Knowing what money can and cannot do keeps it in its proper place.

Spoken by Yajnavalkya.
