Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 2.3.6 meaning
ath-ata adesho n-eti n-eti
na hy-etasmad iti n-ety-anyat param asti
अथात आदेशो नेति नेति ।
न ह्येतस्मादिति नेत्यन्यत्परमस्ति ॥
So the teaching is: "Not this, not this." For there is nothing higher than saying "not this".
What it means
The ultimate cannot be pinned down by any label, so the sages describe it by saying what it is not. The same method helps with the self: you are not just your job, looks or mistakes.हिंदी में अर्थ
इसलिए उपदेश है: "नेति नेति — यह नहीं, यह नहीं।" क्योंकि "यह नहीं" कहने से बढ़कर उसका कोई और वर्णन नहीं है।
परम सत्य किसी नाम या परिभाषा में नहीं बँधता, इसलिए ऋषि बताते हैं कि वह क्या नहीं है। अपने बारे में भी यही सच है: आप केवल नौकरी, रूप या गलतियाँ नहीं हैं।
