Srimad Bhagavatam 4.22.31 meaning

bhrashyaty-anusmritish chittam jnanabhranshah smritikshaye tadrodham kavayah prahur atmapahnavam atmanah

Then memory fails, and with loss of memory, wisdom is lost. The wise say this loss is the self destroying the self.

What it means
Distraction leads to forgetting what matters, and forgetting leads to poor choices. No outside enemy is needed; we undo ourselves. Small daily reminders keep us on track.

Spoken by Sanatkumara.
