ajo nityah shashvatoyam purano na hanyate hanyamane shareere
The soul is never born and never dies. It did not come into being and will not stop being. Unborn, eternal, everlasting and ancient, it is not killed when the body is killed.
What it means
This is one of the Gita's most comforting verses for anyone facing death or loss. The essence of a person does not end with the body. Love and grief can rest on this deeper truth.
Spoken by Krishna.
