Bhagavad Gita 2.12 meaning
na tv-evaham jatu nasam na tvam neme janadhipah
na cha-iva na bhavishyamah sarve vayam atah param
There was never a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor these kings. And never in the future shall any of us cease to be.
What it means
Who we truly are did not begin at birth and will not end at death. This idea can soften the fear of loss: the people we love are more than their passing bodies. How it helps in real life
- In grief: Missing your late father on his birthday? Light a diya, cook his favourite dish, and talk to him as if he's near.
- When you are worried: Lying awake terrified of losing your ageing parents? Remind yourself love doesn't end with a body, then call them tomorrow morning.
Spoken by Krishna.
