Bhagavad Gita 17.19 meaning
moodhagrahen-atmano yat peedaya kriyate tapah
parasy-otsadanartham va tat tamasam udahritam
Austerity done out of foolish stubbornness, by torturing oneself, or to harm another, is called dull (tamasic).
What it means
Effort fuelled by stubbornness, self-harm or the wish to hurt someone is the lowest kind. Discipline should make you and others better, never become a weapon against yourself or anyone else. How it helps in real life
- When you are angry: Refusing to eat to punish your parents for rejecting your choice? Stop the hunger strike, and talk to them calmly with your reasons.
- In love & marriage: Giving your partner the silent treatment for days just to hurt them? End it tonight with a simple 'can we talk?'
Spoken by Krishna.
