Bhagavad Gita 17.11 meaning
aphalakankshibhir yajno vidhidrishto ya ijyate
yashtavyam ev-eti manah samadhaya sa sattvikah
A sacrifice offered as the scriptures guide, by those who seek no reward, with the mind settled on the thought 'this is simply my duty', is pure (sattvic).
What it means
The purest kind of giving or effort is done because it is right, not for what we will get back. When we act from duty and not for reward, the mind stays light and free. How it helps in real life
- With family: Caring for your ailing father-in-law feels thankless. Do it simply because it's right, without keeping score of who else helped.
- At work: Nobody notices when you document the code properly. Keep doing it because it's your duty, and enjoy the lightness of clean work.
Spoken by Krishna.
