Bhagavad Gita 1.42 meaning

sankaro narakay-aiva kulaghnanam kulasya cha patanti pitaro hy-esham luptapindodakakriyah

Such disorder leads to hell, both for those who destroy the family and for the family itself. Their ancestors fall too, deprived of the offerings of rice and water.

What it means
Arjuna fears the chain of remembrance will snap, with no descendants left to honour the ancestors. Behind the ritual language is a universal fear that violence wipes out not only lives but memory.

Spoken by Arjuna.
