अस्ति कश्चित्स्वयं नित्यमहम्प्रत्ययलम्बनः ।
अवस्थात्रयसाक्षी सन्पञ्चकोशविलक्षणः ॥
There is something that is itself eternal, the basis of the sense of 'I'. It witnesses the three states of waking, dream and deep sleep, and is distinct from the five layers of the person.
