Valmiki Ramayana 2.101.17 meaning

n-aiva lobhan na mohad va na ch-ajnanat tamonvitah setum satyasya bhetsyami guroh satyapratishravah

Not out of greed, nor confusion, nor blind ignorance will I break the bridge of truth. I will keep the promise my father made.

What it means
Rama calls truth a bridge: once broken, trust cannot cross back over. Greed, confusion and ignorance are the three usual reasons people break their word. Naming them helps us resist them.

Spoken by Rama.
