A tall house, children praised by good people, wealth beyond counting, a loving wife, and youth: seeing these, ignorant people think the world will last forever and walk into the prison of worldly life. The fortunate one sees it all as passing in a moment, and lets go.

What it means
Good things in life are real, but none of them are permanent. Treating them as forever makes us anxious prisoners of them. Enjoy your blessings while remembering they are on loan, and you will hold them more lightly.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
