Taittiriya Upanishad 1.1.1 meaning
sham no mitrah sham varunah sham no bhavatv aryama
sham na indro brihaspatih sham no vishnur urukramah
May Mitra be kind to us, may Varuna be kind. May Aryaman bring us good. May Indra and Brihaspati be kind to us, and Vishnu of the wide strides.
What it means
Before any learning begins, the students ask every force around them to be friendly. Starting a task by wishing for harmony, rather than rushing in, sets a calm and open tone for whatever follows.
