Subhashitas Subhashita 68 meaning

bhadram kritam kritam maunam kokilair jaladagame dardura yatra vaktaras tatra maunam hi shobhanam

The cuckoos did well to fall silent when the rain clouds came. Where frogs are doing the talking, silence is the graceful choice.

What it means
Not every room deserves your voice. In noisy places where nobody is listening and everyone is croaking, quiet dignity is wiser than joining the din. Save your song for when it can be heard.

Spoken by Vararuci.
