upadhyayan dash-acharya acharyanam shatam pita
sahasram tu pitrin mata gauraven-atirichyate
उपाध्यायान्दशाचार्य आचार्याणां शतं पिता ।
सहस्रं तु पितॄन्माता गौरवेणातिरिच्यते ॥
A teacher of the Veda is worth ten ordinary instructors; a father is worth a hundred such teachers; but a mother outweighs even a thousand fathers in the respect she deserves.
What it means
The verse is not ranking parents against each other; it is saying a mother's sacrifice is beyond measure. Whatever your age, a call, a visit or a word of thanks to her is never too much.हिंदी में अर्थ
एक आचार्य दस उपाध्यायों से बड़ा है, पिता सौ आचार्यों से बड़ा है, पर माता सम्मान में हज़ार पिताओं से भी बढ़कर है।
यह श्लोक माता-पिता की तुलना नहीं कर रहा, बल्कि कह रहा है कि माँ का त्याग नापा नहीं जा सकता। उम्र कोई भी हो, उनसे एक फ़ोन, मुलाक़ात या धन्यवाद कभी ज़्यादा नहीं।
