Subhashitas Subhashita 435 meaning

shraddheya vipralabdharah priya vipriyakarinah sudustyajas tyajantopi kamah kashta hi shatravah

Desires deceive us yet seem trustworthy; they harm us yet feel dear; they leave us yet are very hard to leave. Desires are truly painful enemies.

What it means
The tricky thing about cravings is that they disguise themselves as friends. A habit that hurts you can still feel comforting. Naming it honestly, as something that works against you, is the first step to loosening its grip.

Spoken by Bhāravi.
