kanthastha ya bhaved vidya sa prakashya sada budhaih
ya gurau pustake vidya taya moodhah prataryate
कण्ठस्था या भवेद्विद्या सा प्रकाश्या सदा बुधैः ।
या गुरौ पुस्तके विद्या तया मूढः प्रतार्यते ॥
Knowledge you have by heart is what the wise can always bring out and use. Knowledge that sits only with the teacher or in a book leaves a careless person stranded.
What it means
