Between a snake and a wicked person, the snake is better. A snake bites only now and then; a wicked person bites at every step.

What it means
A snake strikes only when threatened. A truly malicious person keeps hurting you with words, schemes and betrayals. Recognise such patterns early, and keep a healthy distance without becoming bitter yourself.
