nirvanadeepe kimu tailadanam chaure gate va kimu savadhanam
vayogate kim vanitavilasah payogate kim khalu setubandhah
निर्वाणदीपे किमु तैलदानं चौरे गते वा किमु सावधानम् ।
वयोगते किं वनिताविलासः पयोगते किं खलु सेतुबन्धः ॥
What use is pouring oil once the lamp has gone out, or keeping watch after the thief has left? What use is romance once youth is gone, or building a dam after the water has flowed away?
What it means
Prevention beats regret. Fill the lamp before it goes out, lock the door before the thief comes, and build the dam before the flood. Look ahead and act before the moment slips away.हिंदी में अर्थ
दीया बुझ जाने पर तेल डालने का क्या लाभ, या चोर के चले जाने के बाद चौकसी का क्या? उम्र निकल जाने पर रंगरेलियों का क्या, और पानी बह जाने पर बाँध बाँधने का क्या?
पछताने से बचाव बेहतर है। दीया बुझने से पहले तेल डालिए, चोर आने से पहले ताला लगाइए। आगे देखिए और मौका निकलने से पहले काम कीजिए।
