With its three sounds A, U and M, the word Om stands for the three Vedas, the three states of waking, dream and sleep, the three worlds and the three gods. With its subtle after-sound it points to your fourth, changeless state. O refuge, Om names you, whole and in parts.

What it means
Om holds everything: every state of mind, every world, and the silence beyond them. Chanting it slowly, and listening to the quiet after it, is a simple way to touch stillness.

Spoken by Pushpadanta.
