Rigveda · Mandala 7 · Mahamrtyunjaya Mantra
Rigveda 7.59.12 meaning
ॐ tryambakam yajamahe sugandhim pushtivardhanam
urvarukam iva bandhanan mrityor muksheeya mamritat
We worship the three-eyed One, fragrant, who nourishes and strengthens all. As a ripe cucumber slips easily from its vine, may I be freed from death—but not from immortality.
What it means
Prayed for healing and in times of fear, this mantra asks for a gentle release—like ripe fruit falling naturally—from whatever binds us, including the fear of death, while staying rooted in what never dies.
Spoken by Vasishtha.
