If famous poets, whose words are polished by learning and whose knowledge is worth passing on to students, live in poverty in a king's land, that is the king's dullness. Poets are rich even without money. Blame the poor judges who lowered the price of the gems.

What it means
If your talent goes unrewarded, that doesn't make it worthless. A poor judge of gems doesn't change the gem. Keep doing good work, and also learn to notice and value talent in others.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
