Mahabharata 5.131.13 meaning

alatam tindukasy-eva muhoortam api vijvala ma tushagnir iv-anarchih kakarankha jijeevishuh muhoortam jvalitam shreyo na tu dhoomayitam chiram

Blaze up, even for a moment, like a firebrand of tinduka wood; do not smoulder like chaff without a flame just to cling to life. Better to burn bright for a moment than smoke for ages.

What it means
Queen Vidula rouses her defeated son. A short life lived with courage is better than a long one lived in fear. Do not let worry keep you smouldering; dare to shine.

Spoken by Vidula.
