Mahabharata 3.313.57-58 meaning

Yaksha: Who enjoys the senses, is clever, respected and liked by all, breathes, and yet is not truly alive? Yudhishthira: The one who gives nothing to these five: the gods, guests, those who depend on him, his ancestors, and himself. He breathes, but does not live.

What it means
Success and popularity are not the same as being alive. A full life flows outward: to what you hold sacred, to visitors, to people who rely on you, to your roots, and even to your own wellbeing.

Spoken by Yaksha, Yudhishthira.
