Mahabharata 18.5.49 meaning

With arms raised I cry out, yet no one listens to me: from dharma come wealth and pleasure too, so why is dharma not followed?

What it means
Vyasa's cry at the end of the epic: living rightly does not cost you prosperity or joy, it brings them. People chase money and pleasure directly and miss the path that leads to both.

Spoken by Vyasa.
