Mahabharata 12.27.30 meaning

sukham duhkhantam alasyam dakshyam duhkham sukh-odayam bhootih shreer hreer dhritih siddhir n-adakshe nivasanty-uta

Laziness feels pleasant but ends in pain; hard work feels painful but gives rise to happiness. Prosperity, fortune, self-respect, resolve and success never live with the idle.

What it means
The couch feels good now and costs you later. Effort feels hard now and pays you later. Every good thing you want, from money to self-respect, tends to settle near people who keep showing up.

Spoken by Vyasa.
