Katha Upanishad 1.3.4 meaning

indriyani hayan ahur vishayans teshu gocharan atm-endriyamanoyuktam bhokt-ety-ahur maneeshinah

The senses, they say, are the horses, and the things of the world are the roads they run on. The wise call the Self, joined with body, senses and mind, the one who experiences.

What it means
Our senses are powerful horses, always pulling toward sights, sounds and tastes. Knowing this helps us notice where we are being pulled, and choose whether to go.

Spoken by Yama.
