Katha Upanishad 1.2.8 meaning

na naren-avarena prokta esha suvijneyo bahudha chintyamanah ananyaprokte gatir atra n-asty-aneeyan hy-atarkyam anupramanat

Taught by someone who has not realised it, the Self is not easily understood, however much one thinks about it. Without one who knows it as their own being, there is no way in, for it is subtler than the subtle and beyond argument.

What it means
Some things cannot be learned from people who only read about them. Seek out those who have lived what they teach. Real understanding passes from experience to experience.

Spoken by Yama.
