Hitopadesha 2.63 meaning

apraptakalam vachanam brihaspatir api bruvan labhate buddhy-avajnanam avamanam cha bharata

Even Brihaspati, the teacher of the gods, if he speaks at the wrong moment, will have his wisdom ignored and be insulted, O Bharata.

What it means
Timing is half of good advice. The right words at the wrong moment fall flat or backfire. Before speaking, ask whether the other person is ready to hear it.

Spoken by Karataka.
