yaty-adhodhah vrajaty-uchchair narah svair eva karmabhih
koopasya khanita yadvat prakarasy-eva karakah
यात्यधोऽधः व्रजत्युच्चैर्नरः स्वैरेव कर्मभिः।
कूपस्य खनिता यद्वत्प्राकारस्येव कारकः॥
A person sinks lower and lower, or rises higher and higher, by their own actions — like the one who digs a well goes down, and the one who builds a wall goes up.
