Hitopadesha 1.44 meaning
dhanani jeevitam cha-iva pararthe prajna utsrijet
sannimitte varam tyago vinashe niyate sati
A wise person is willing to give up wealth and even life for the sake of others. Since loss is certain one day anyway, it is better to give things up for a good cause.
What it means
Everything we hold will slip away eventually. Knowing this, the wise choose to spend their time, money and energy on something meaningful — helping others — rather than clinging to what cannot last.
