Hitopadesha 1.123 meaning

tan-eendriyany-avikalani tad eva nama sa buddhir apratihata vachanam tad eva arth-oshmana virahitah purushah sa ev-anyah kshanena bhavat-eeti vichitram etat

The same healthy senses, the same name, the same sharp mind, the same way of speaking — yet when the warmth of wealth leaves him, the same man instantly becomes someone else. How strange!

What it means
Losing money can make people treat you, and even make you see yourself, as a different person. Remember that your mind, values and abilities have not changed. Your worth was never in your wallet.

Spoken by Hiranyaka.
