Makar Sankranti · Pongal 2027 in Port of Spain

Makar Sankranti, usually on 14 or 15 January, marks the sun's entry into Capricorn (Makar) and the start of its northward journey, Uttarayan, along with the winter harvest. It is one of the few Hindu festivals fixed by the solar calendar: Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Lohri the night before in Punjab, Uttarayan with kites in Gujarat, Magh Bihu in Assam and Khichdi in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

The sun visits his son, and Bhishma's wait
