Chandogya Upanishad 6.1.3 meaning

shvetaketo yan nu somy-edam mahamana anoochanamanee stabdhosy uta tam adesham aprakshyah yen-ashrutam shrutam bhavaty amatam matam avijnatam vijnatam iti

Shvetaketu returned from twelve years of study proud and conceited. His father Uddalaka asked: "Son, since you think you are so learned — did you ask about the teaching by which the unheard becomes heard, the unthought becomes thought, and the unknown becomes known?"

What it means
Degrees and information can make us arrogant without making us wise. The father's gentle question pricks the bubble: have you learned the one thing that makes sense of everything else?

Spoken by Uddalaka.
