Chanakya Niti 6.17 meaning

indriyani cha sanyamya ragadvesha-vivarjitah samaduhkhasukhah shantah tattvajnah sadhur uchyate

One who controls the senses, is free from attachment and hatred, stays the same in sorrow and joy, is calm and knows the truth — such a person is called a sage.

What it means
Real goodness is about inner balance, not outward show. Self-control, freedom from grudges and steadiness through ups and downs make a person peaceful, wise and trustworthy.

Spoken by Chanakya.
