Chanakya Niti · Chapter 14
Chanakya Niti 14.8 meaning
doorasthopi na doorastho yo yasya manasi sthitah
yo yasya hridaye nasti sameepasthopi dooratah
Someone who lives in your heart is never far away, even if they are far off. And someone who has no place in your heart is distant, even when standing right beside you.
What it means
Closeness is measured in hearts, not kilometres. A loved one abroad can feel nearer than someone in the same room. Nurture the bonds that matter, wherever those people are.
Spoken by Chanakya.
