drishtipootam nyaset padam vastrapootam jalam pibet
shastrapootam vaded vakyam manahpootam samacharet
दृष्टिपूतं न्यसेत्पादं वस्त्रपूतं जलं पिबेत्।
शास्त्रपूतं वदेद्वाक्यं मनःपूतं समाचरेत्॥
Put your foot down only after looking. Drink water only after straining it through cloth. Speak words checked against wisdom. Act only after your mind has examined the deed.

देखकर कदम रखो, कपड़े से छानकर पानी पियो, शास्त्र की कसौटी पर परखकर बात बोलो, और मन से सोच-विचार करके ही काम करो।
हर काम से पहले छानो। कदम रखने से पहले देखो, कुछ लेने से पहले जाँचो, बोलने से पहले सोचो, और करने से पहले विचार करो। थोड़ी सावधानी बहुत सी गलतियाँ बचाती है।
