Chanakya Niti 1.10 meaning
lokayatra bhayam lajja dakshinyam tyagasheelata
pancha yatra na vidyante na kuryat tatra sansthitim
लोकयात्रा भयं लज्जा दाक्षिण्यं त्यागशीलता ।
पञ्च यत्र न विद्यन्ते न कुर्यात्तत्र संस्थितिम् ॥
Do not make your home where these five are missing: a way to earn a living, fear of doing wrong, a sense of shame, courtesy, and a giving nature.
What it means
A community's character matters as much as its facilities. Where people fear doing wrong, feel shame, show courtesy and share freely, life is safer and kinder. Choose such surroundings for yourself and your family.हिंदी में अर्थ
जहाँ ये पाँच न हों—रोज़गार का साधन, गलत काम का डर, लज्जा, शिष्टता और देने की भावना—वहाँ घर नहीं बसाना चाहिए।
किसी जगह का चरित्र उसकी सुविधाओं जितना ही ज़रूरी है। जहाँ लोग गलत से डरें, शर्म रखें, शिष्ट हों और बाँटना जानें, वहीं जीवन सुरक्षित और सुखद होता है।
