Srimad Bhagavatam 12.3.48 meaning

vidyatapahprananirodhamaitree-teerthabhishekavratadanajapyaih n-atyantashuddhim labhatentaratma yatha hridisthe bhagavaty anante

Through learning, austerity, breath control, friendliness, holy baths, vows, charity and chanting, the inner self is not purified as completely as when the infinite Lord dwells in the heart.

What it means
Practices are valuable, but the deepest change comes from what fills your heart. Let your practices serve love rather than replace it. Practice and love work best together, each strengthening the other.
