Srimad Bhagavatam 11.2.6 meaning
bhajanti ye yatha devan deva api tath-aiva tan
chay-eva karmasachivah sadhavo deenavatsalah
भजन्ति ये यथा देवान्देवा अपि तथैव तान्।
छायेव कर्मसचिवाः साधवो दीनवत्सलाः॥
Whatever way people worship the gods, the gods respond to them in the same way, like a shadow following one's actions. But saintly people are kind to the suffering without waiting for anything.

लोग देवताओं को जैसे भजते हैं, देवता भी उन्हें वैसा ही फल देते हैं, जैसे परछाईं कर्म के पीछे चलती है। पर संत बिना कुछ चाहे दुखियों पर दया करते हैं।
ज़्यादातर रिश्ते लेन-देन पर चलते हैं: जैसा दोगे, वैसा पाओगे। सच्चे सज्जन इससे आगे जाकर उनकी भी मदद करते हैं जो कुछ लौटा नहीं सकते। ऐसी करुणा अपनाने लायक है।
