Bhagavad Gita 9.17 meaning
pitaham asya jagato mata dhata pitamahah
vedyam pavitram onkara rik sama yajur eva cha
I am the father of this world, its mother, its supporter and its grandfather. I am what is worth knowing, the purifier, the sacred syllable Om, and the Rig, Sama and Yajur Vedas too.
What it means
The Divine is described as both father and mother—protector and nurturer. Whatever kind of care you need, it's there. You are never truly without family in this universe. How it helps in real life
- When you feel alone: First Diwali alone in Toronto, no family nearby. Light one diya, say a short prayer, and remember you are still held.
- When you are worried: Lying awake the night before a family member's big surgery? Whisper Om a few times and let yourself feel looked after.
Spoken by Krishna.
