akeertim chapi bhootani kathayishyanti tevyayam
sambhavitasya chakeertir maranad atirichyate
People will speak of your dishonour for a long time. And for someone once respected, disgrace is worse than death.
What it means
Krishna appeals to Arjuna's sense of honour. For us, it is a reminder that our reputation is built by how we act in hard moments, and walking away from what is right leaves a lasting mark. How it helps in real life
- At work: Tempted to quietly skip a tough project deadline and blame the vendor? People remember who stood firm; own it and push through.
- With money: A shady deal promises quick money but could cost your name. Your reputation took years to build; say no today, in writing.
Spoken by Krishna.
