Bhagavad Gita 17.22 meaning
adeshakale yad danam apatrebhyash cha deeyate
asatkritam avajnatam tat tamasam udahritam
A gift given at the wrong place and time, to unworthy people, without respect or with contempt, is called dull (tamasic).
What it means
How you give matters. Throwing help at someone while looking down on them hurts more than it helps. Give with respect and at a time and place where it truly makes a difference. How it helps in real life
- Helping others: Giving old clothes to your maid? Wash and fold them first, hand them over respectfully, and ask if she actually needs them.
- With family: Lending money to your cousin, then reminding everyone at every function? Give quietly, or don't give at all.
Spoken by Krishna.
