vidhiheenam asrishtannam mantraheenam adakshinam
shraddhavirahitam yajnam tamasam parichakshate

A sacrifice done without proper method, without sharing food, without sacred words, without giving to those who serve, and without faith is called dull (tamasic).
What it means
An act done carelessly, without sharing, without respect for those who help, and without any belief in it is empty. Whatever we do, doing it with care, generosity and heart changes everything. How it helps in real life
- With family: Rushing through your mother's Satyanarayan puja while checking your phone? Put it away, sit properly, and help serve prasad to everyone.
- Helping others: At your housewarming, the cook and helpers ate last and least. Next time, feed them first and thank them in front of the guests.
