desire and dislike, pleasure and pain, the body as a whole, awareness, and steadiness: this, in short, is the field along with its changes.
What it means
Likes, dislikes, happiness and pain all belong to the changing field. They come and go. Knowing this, you can feel them fully without believing they are the whole of who you are.How it helps in real life
- In grief: Grief after your dog died comes in waves. When a wave hits, let yourself feel it fully, knowing it will pass and come back softer.
- When you feel alone: Sunday evening blues hit hard in your PG room. Name the feeling, remind yourself it's a passing mood, and call a friend or cook something.
