nag-endraharaya trilochanaya bhasmangaragaya maheshvaraya
nityaya shuddhaya digambaraya tasmai nakaraya namah shivaya
To the one who wears the king of serpents as a garland, the three-eyed one, whose body is smeared with ash, the great Lord; eternal, pure, clothed only by the sky—to that Shiva, the syllable ‘Na’, I bow.
What it means
Shiva wears snakes and ash—things we fear or throw away—and is still pure and eternal. True holiness doesn't need decoration; it is at ease even with what others find frightening.
Spoken by Adi Shankaracharya.
