sant hriday navaneet samana kaha kabinha pari kahai na jana
nij paritap dravai navaneeta par dukh dravahin sant supuneeta
Poets have said a saint's heart is like butter, but they did not say it right. Butter melts from its own heat; good saints melt at the pain of others.
What it means
A lovely twist on a common image. Butter melts only when it is heated itself; a truly kind person melts when someone else is hurting. Real compassion feels another's pain as its own.How it helps in real life
- With friends: Your friend's dad is in hospital in another city. Don't just text 'take care'; book her a cab or drop off food.
- Helping others: An elderly man is struggling with heavy bags at the railway station. Stop, carry them to his train, and don't wait to be asked.
Spoken by Garuda.
