akrodhena jayet krodham asadhum sadhuna jayet
jayet kadaryam danena jayet satyena chanritam
Conquer anger with calm, conquer the wicked with goodness, conquer the miser with generosity, and conquer lies with truth.
What it means
Fighting fire with fire usually just makes more fire. Meet anger with calm, meanness with kindness, stinginess with generosity, and lies with truth — it disarms people.
Spoken by Vidura.
