Mahabharata 1.74.2 meaning
yah samutpatitam krodham nigrihnati hayam yatha
sa yant-ety-uchyate sadbhir na yo rashmishu lambate
The one who reins in anger the moment it rises, as a rider controls a horse, is called a true charioteer by the wise, not the one who merely hangs on to the reins.
What it means
Anger is like a bolting horse. Holding the reins is not enough; you must actually steer. Real self-control means catching anger as it starts, before it drags you somewhere you regret.
