Kena Upanishad 1.1 meaning

ken-eshitam patati preshitam manah kena pranah prathamah praiti yuktah ken-eshitam vacham imam vadanti chakshuh shrotram ka u devo yunakti

The student asks: By whose will does the mind fly to its objects? Who sets the first breath of life moving? Who makes us speak these words? And what power directs the eye and the ear?

What it means
The whole Upanishad begins with one honest question: what is behind my seeing, hearing and thinking? Asking 'who am I, really?' instead of taking yourself for granted is where real wisdom starts.

Spoken by Disciple.
